Going For Gold: State Semi-Finals





MURFREESBORO, TN- The 5th ranked Greenfield Lady Jackets (33-2) take on the #1 ranked Summertown Lady Eagles Saturday at 3:30 P.M. for the Class A State Championship at Murphy Center's Mante Hale Arena on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University.

The Lady Jackets took on the #2 ranked Huntingdon Fillies (28-2) in the first Class A State Semi-Finals of the day. This game was one of the most exciting, thrill riding, and fun games to watch, coach, and more than likely broadcast. 

Both teams came out hot and were tied after the first quarter 12-12. The Fillies were doing it from inside going 5-for-10 in the paint and 1-for-3 from behind the arc as they shot 50% from the field. . The Lady Jackets did better at from the free throw stripe going 5-for-6. and shooting 25% from the field.

At the half, the Lady Jackets led 23-22 over the Fillies of Huntingdon. In the third both teams traded baskets left and right. There were eight lead changes and four ties throughout the game and the Lady Jackets won 53-46 and will head to their first Girls State Championship game appearance in school history.

In the second Class A State Semi-Final game, the Lady Eagles of Summertown took on the Lady Rangers of Unaka. This game was close in the first half as the Lady Eagles and Lady Rangers shot lights out as the Lady Eagles led 30-22 at the half.

In the second half, Summertown's defense stole the show as they held the Lady Rangers to 32% from the field as they shot 39%. The Lady Eagles were able to go 19-for-26 from the free throw stripe, 73%, to put the Lady Eagles in the Class A Championship game for the first time in school history with a 57-44 win.

Two teams, 136 miles apart, eyeing for school history tomorrow at historic Murphy Center. It's going to be a dandy of a ballgame folks!
