Alabama Man Captured In Lawrence County Faces Death Sentence

LAWRENCEBURG, TN-A Colbert County, Alabama man arrested in Lawrence County in 2016 faces the death penalty after being convicted of murder.

Benjamin Owen Young, 30, of Tuscumbia was convicted of capital murder, first -degree assault, and shooting into an occupied vehicle on Wednesday, February 7th. 
The conviction stemmed from an on March 9, 2016, where Young shot into a car and killed 19-year old Ki-Jana Freeman and injured 17-year old Tyler Blythe at a Tuscumbia Apartment Complex.

Young is charged in Lawrence County for aggravated assault on a police officer, reckless endangerment, and Evading Arrest. Following the shooting at the apartment complex, Young fled the scene, leading law enforcement of a chase that ultimately ended in Iron City.

After being convicted in a Tuscumbia Courtroom the jury later recommended Young be executed. The jury voted was 11-1 to recommend that Young be sentenced to death. A judge will ultimately choose between life without parole or a death sentence for Young.
