Be Weather Aware - Flooding Potential Continues

LINDEN, TN - With the potential for another heavy round of rain entering the mid-state, flooding concerns are once again a top priority.  Middle Tennessee could receive another 2-4 inches from noon Wednesday until noon on Thursday. This rain will worsen any creeks and rivers in the area that are already high. Closer to the TN/AL border you get the more rain is forecast to fall.

As mentioned above, most of West and Middle TN are under a flood watch as well as areal flood advisories.

The Flood Watch is set to begin 12pm today and expires 12pm on Thursday. If you live in flood-prone areas you will need a plan of action. With this being severe weather week, I would like to remind everyone to stay weather aware, especially during all this flooding.

Lobelville Mayor Assures Residents Following Water Violation Letter

LOBELVILLE, TN - A recent letter issued to Lobelville water customers has people on edge, and the Mayor reaching out to calm fears. The notice, issued February 16th, notes a 'violation in Federal drinking standards' and warns of a possible cancer risk if customers are exposed to high levels over a long period of time.

'Dangerous high levels of this chlorine by-product were not found (in our water), however the amount tested was barely above a standard, and in full transparency, a warning had to be issued" Lobelville Mayor Robby Moore said in an interview with WOPC-FM.

The letter was triggered from a routine water sample that was taken last summer. The sample was combined with others over a testing period from the year, and found to have a slightly higher level of a chemical called Haloacetic Acid. The legal standard for the chemical in drinking water is 0.060mg/L (per billion), and Lobelville was found to have a measurement of 0.062mg/L (parts per billion).

The chemical buildup, according to Moore, was caused in the hot summer months, when certain parts of the water system were not properly flushed. Moore says corrective action was taken at the time, and new safeguards are in place to prevent the chemical buildup from ever happening again.

"It's important for us to be transparent, for customers to know about this issue, but it is also important to be clear that is is a microscopic measurement in a short period of time, and we do not believe there is a health risk of cause for alarm" Moore said. "I drink this water, my family drinks this water, we take this issue seriously and we would never put our citizens in harm" Moore noted.

If you are a Lobelville water customer, and you have questions about the letter, or the chemical tested, you can call the water department at 931-593-2388.

People were lined up and the delivery van was beginning to fill up by 11 DJ's Flowers and Gifts.

What may be different is that at Perry County High School the Future Farmers of America have had their own Valentines gift program for the better part of a decade.

The FFA program had sold over 2000 chocolate dipped strawberries today.

State Officials Call Meeting Tonight To Discuss Lewis County Jail

HOHENWALD, TN- Officials with the Tennessee Correctional Institue have called a special meeting to discuss the future of the Lewis County Jail.

Officals with Tennessee Correctional Institute called a special meeting with the Lewis County Commission to inform them of findings of a recent inspection of the county jail.

Bob Bass, TCI, told the commissioners amd those in attendance that the Lewis County Jail was found to be overcrowded in a recent inspection.

That overcrowding and the lack of a "measurable progess" on resolving that overcrowding leaves the jail in jeopardy of losing its certification.

The jail will be re-inspected in March and then Lewis County can present their case to the regulatory board and ask them not to decertify the jail.

Four options were discussed at the meeting tp resolve the crisis. The cost of those options range between $6 and $11 million to Lewis County taxpayers.

Bass told commissioners that Lewis County Sheriff Dwayne Kilpatrick had done all he could do and now he was in "crisis management."

Bass then told commissioners "this county is going to have to make decisions on how they plan to move foward"
