THP: DUI Checkpoints Planned for New Year's Eve

THP Roadblocks On New Year’s Eve To Include Hardin, Lawrence, Hickman, Giles And Maury
The Tennessee Highway Patrol wishes everyone a happy and safe New Years Eve. To help insure that, there will be a heavy patrol presence and checkpoints.
The THP will be conducting several sobriety and seatbelt checkpoints in the Tennessee River Valley on New Year’s Eve and New Year's day.
The checkpoints will be set up on New Year's Eve in Hickman, Giles, Lawrence and Maury counties. Then on New Year's Day in Hardin, Hickman and Giles Counties.
Several residents of the Tennessee River Valley have reportedly died or been severally injured in DUI related accidents. In many of those troopers noted in reports that the use of seatbelts could have made a difference in the outcome of the accident.
Impaired driving is a serious crime that kills more than 16,000 people and injures 305,000 people every year in the U.S. Troopers will evaluate drivers for signs of alcohol or drug impairment. Troopers will target those who operate a vehicle while impaired and take corrective actions for other violations observed while ensuring the protection of all motorists.
The THP recognizes that sobriety roadside checkpoints are highly visible and effective tools of enforcing laws of Tennessee and that sobriety checkpoints are effective tools in the battle against impaired driving.
